Academy

The Academy program is offered concurrently with our Recreational programming so players who would like to play more soccer and have more professional coaching at younger age groups can do so. The Academy is a setting where players can learn more soccer skills while having fun and as they grow older, move through the purposeful, planned, and progressive TC Storm Player Pathway toward our Competitive Program (ages 7+) and beyond.

LIL TWISTERS

AGES 3-5

The ultimate goal of the Lil Twisters Program is to teach fundamental soccer skills through age-appropriate, creative activities that focus on the individual development of each player in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. By combining creative, high-energy instruction with non-competitive scrimmaging (not keeping score), players are challenged in a manner that suits their learning style and developmental abilities while learning to love the game of soccer and having a blast along the way. Players in this age bracket are typically fixated on the ball and may have trouble sharing it. We'll limit the time spent scrimmaging and focus on individual skill development, but it's important for players to understand the "real game" of soccer exists.

We believe this is the best time to foster comfort on the ball and around the game of soccer in general, as well as begin to teach ball mastery skills (footwork with the ball). We will focus heavily on individual skill development but will start to introduce teamwork as well. We believe this program is the beginning of a lifelong journey with the sport of soccer, so we will work extremely hard to create a fun, development-based environment.

THUNDER

AGES 6-7

The Thunder program is the second phase of our Player Pathway. Here, we'll balance instruction with fun games and activities that focus on technique, decision-making and the speed of play, all while continuing to utilize players' imaginations within fun activities. Instruction will be challenging but never intimidating. Players will thrive in this no-pressure environment because they can focus on learning and refining their skills while having fun. We will start to integrate more scrimmages and real-game situations. This overall approach embraces the lessons that are found in the game itself and is player-centered rather than coach-centered.

The Thunder program will add more technical-based training. The idea is for players to still have fun, but this is an age where players can start to really enjoy the game itself and the skills within it, and we'll look to continue building those skills and encourage players to use them in game-like settings.

STORMIES

AGES 8-12

The Stormies program is the third phase of our Player Pathway and is a bridge between Academy and the Competitive program for players ages 8 and up. The Stormies program is designed to meet the needs of more advanced players, but still not require too much of a commitment from players and families. Stormies sessions combine a small player-to-coach ratio with a challenging curriculum to create a rewarding soccer experience. The focus is more technical but the sessions will continue to emphasize fun and effort.

This program's developmentally appropriate curriculum will continue to place emphasis on ball mastery (passing, receiving, dribbling), but add in skills like shielding, turning with the ball, creative dribbling moves, and ball striking. Our goal is to provide a competitive environment in which players will have opportunities to have the ball at their feet, make game-like decisions and be active. We will also teach players to find 1v1 and 2v1 situations on the field to showcase their ball mastery skills and creative dribbling moves in game situations.
